Nan.Ko Studio has been selected to participate in the AIA New Orleans Des Cours Festival in December 2009. The project, Nocturnal Topiaries is aims to look at traditional elements of landscape and urbanism and change their formal attributes to create a new synthesis of cityscape and landscape. Using the idea of the topiary, a landscape element that is so rigidly formed that is becomes almost an unnatural by its very nature. Challenging the traditional notion of the topiary, they are intended to function or behave as new types of “scape,” finding a point of meeting between the organic form of the natural landscape and the controlled form of the cityscape.
